Honorees

Denise D. Grant
As Commissioner of the City of Lauderhill, Ms. Grant has served as Vice Mayor in 2020, a bestowment by her colleagues and developed, implemented and provided programs and resources geared to the optimization and progression of the residents and business community. She has enhanced the quality of life in the City by impro ving safety measures, strengthening and revitalizing the business community (economic driver), implementing and retaining effective programs that meets the needs of the community such as the senior delivery program and mobilized 76 volunteers to feed over 15,000 seniors. Denise has an immeasurable love for people, community and government, thus positions herself as a servant-leader.

Linora Chappelle
Linora Chappelle is a beloved member of the direct care personnel at the Sylvia L. Poitier & Theodora S. Williams Senior Center administered by the Northwest Federated Woman’s Club of Broward County, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her passion for caring for seniors arose in 1996 when she took up her first job as a caregiver at a nursing facility; in these early years of her career, she built strong bonds with those she cared for. She challenged herself to further her education in the field to continue the work that she believed she was called to do, and she has now been a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 10 years.

Patricia E. Barton
Patricia has served as a Health Care Professional for 21 years and as a caregiver for her mother Advira M. Wright, for over 13 years. She is the charge nurse at Northwest Hospital in Margate, FL. She started her career in the healthcare industry as an LPN, then furthered her education by becoming a Registered Nurse, and now a BSN Graduate from Galen School of Nursing. Patricia’s love and compassion for people led her to nursing. Her constant motivation for providing care is guided by the stance that her patients depend on her to provide great care, comfort, and to be their advocate.

Gleneta Nikki Dawkins
Gleneta Nikki Dawkins is a local graduate of Nova High School in Davie,Fl and an HBCU graduate of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. In 2014, Gleneta moved from North Carolina to Florida with 2 small children, to become a full-time caretaker for her mother who suffered from many ailments. Gleneta is also a substitute teacher for Broward County Public Schools. She loves children and the elderly and frequently volunteers with both groups at United Merrell Methodist Church and Piney Grove Baptist Church Girl Scout Troop. She is an active Democratic and has helped with both local and national campaigns. Gleneta dedicates her life in service of the Lord, her family, and her community.

Christos Makrides (Chris)
Christos Makrides (Chris) the owner of Merit Pharmacy has been a part of the community for over 25 years. During these years he has served the community daily by providing personal patient care. Chris has taken the opportunity to educate and counsel the community to address questions they may have regarding medication dosing, side effects and overall ensuring that patients appropriately understand their medication. He’s consistently looking for ways to improve service and cater to the community needs. He believes it is our responsibility to take care of our community and our neighbors, and it’s a job he takes very seriously.
