Land of the Free Home of the Brave

In the month of July, we celebrate Independence Day, a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

This holiday is so monumental because America’s forefathers brought to life a vision of an independent nation in which life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness became the right of all people.

Independence Day Traditions For Seniors Citizens and their families

This holiday is celebrated with several traditions that senior citizens can enjoy and pass down to the next generation.

Seniors attend events at senior centers, they plan to travel to many places in the U.S. to visit national parks, the mountains, beaches, and large cities. They go camping, visit theme parks, and stop at important national historic sites. Many people also visit Washington D.C., the nation’s capital, to celebrate the 4th of July.

This holiday is also celebrated with barbecues or picnics with family and friends at home or at a local park. The  popular menu items are hot dogs, hamburgers, other meats or vegetables. They eat potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, watermelon, and a variety of desserts.
